A cabin in Pla Vada Woodlands, just off Donner Summit, and a lesson in what a real budget can do when the sequence is right.
It arrived as blue carpet, grey stone and laminate: dated rather than broken. Nothing structural needed moving, so the money went into surfaces and one room at a time.
The kitchen went to quartz and walnut. The hearth was rewrapped in blackened stone. The bathroom took slate and walnut, and the loft went from empty floor to a lounge that people actually sit in. Partial furnishing and rental readiness closed it out.
